The Engagement
Director. Photographer.
For creatives such as myself, a shared passion for evocative storytelling and dynamic images often results in the desire to create at the intersection of both crafts. So often, this takes the form of filmmaking, however, the challenge with making a film is the amount of resources and talent required to bring it to life; this makes the process of creating films that much more special when I have the opportunity to be a part of the process.
When I find myself up against projects outside of the film space, I’m often times even further invigorated to find a way to intersect my zeal and talent for telling enthralling stories through thoughtfully crafted images.
Though I have a deep appreciation for the role dialogue plays in telling a story, I am aware that some of the best storytelling happens in speechless moments; perhaps this is most vividly on display in love stories.
My approach to photographing a couple is to produce the culminating scene of the romantic-comedy that is their love story, let the couple inhabit the scene and be present to photograph the magic that inevitably ensues.
I am able to do this by working closely with the couple to understand their story; I manifest a location, props and a theme using key moments from their daily lives together. Although I successfully create film stills from what feels like a romantic comedy, the final product, in essence, are moments from a documentary.
